ROXBURY - Les Greene, the singer and guitarist who portrayed Little Richard in Baz Luhrmann’s film “Elvis,” will bring his roots-rock and soul sound to Hilt Kelly Hall at the Roxbury Arts Center on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Greene will perform with his band, The Swayzees, combining elements of soul, R&B, funk and jazz with the music of the 1950s and ’60s that shaped his musical foundation.
Greene was born in Baltimore and spent part of his childhood in Guyana, where he was exposed to American soul and R&B music through television broadcasts. He has cited artists including Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Ben E. King as early influences.
Greene was recently named one of the five finalists in NPR’s 2026 Tiny Desk Contest, selected from more than 6,000 entries.
