Letter to the Editor: Grateful to The Reporter for so many reasons

Posted

I have lived in the Sidney, Franklin and Bainbridge areas for most of my life. While the Reporter was always around, most people in my area really counted on the TriTown News. It was a sad day when they had to stop operating. Fortunately, The Reporter has not only continued on but they have stepped up to offer real journalism about things that matter to local people in the area. The 3-week series about the Hancock residential school should win an award and to serve as cautionary tale about our individual responsibilities to speak up when something isn’t right. The Reporter also provides a wealth of information on opportunities to connect with our neighbors and to remember and celebrate why we live in this beautiful area.

It is very disappointing that the county made the decision to stop using The Reporter for legal notifications. Considering the valuable service that The Reporter is providing to the area residents, it seems that we might want to make an investment in ensuring that they survive. I truly hope that the local businesses will recognize what an important resource this paper is to all members of our local communities.

As the director of The Family Resource Network, a small non-profit that serves families that have loved ones with disabilities in 6 counties, The Reporter allows us to keep our ear to the ground in order to best access where our services most need to be deployed. We can easily see what areas of the county are having events where we might share information. We look forward to meeting and serving more families within The Reporter coverage area.

We also appreciate the kindness of both Mary and Karen as they worked with us to develop advertisements on a very limited budget. Thank you to everyone at The Reporter for providing this high quality and necessary service. I don’t know what the area would do without you.
