Trump again floated the idea of paying every adult American $5,000 IF Republicans remain in power in Congress after the midterm elections. This illegal attempt to bribe the electorate smacks of the administration’s fear of losing power in all three branches of government. Despite the President’s denials, calling the affordability crisis a “hoax,” it is also a tacit admission that he is aware of how deeply unpopular his policies are, and how difficult affording daily life has become.
People simply cannot afford their gas, groceries, healthcare, childcare, or much of anything else. And people are smart enough to know that the Big (Bad) Beautiful Bill, Tariff Wars, and Real Wars in the Middle East are the causes.
Do not be fooled by this transparent attempt to manipulate voters with the promise of money. This is the second time Trump has tried this in his second term: In late 2025 a $2,000 per person “tariff dividend” funded by tariff revenue was promised, and a $5,000 “DOGE or savings dividend” has been promised throughout 2026, including at the GOP midterm convention (contingent on his party holding Congress in the midterm elections). Needless to say, no checks have been delivered, and there has never been any legal authorization to release these “dividends.”
Speaking as one of the ‘dividend eligible adult citizens’ I would rather have an administration focused on policies that make gas, groceries and our lives more affordable, rather than an administration adding an estimated 1.2 TRILLION to our already crippling national debt.
