Letter to the Editor: True News That Should Concern Every American

Posted

House Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly (416 to 3) passed the “Rate Payer Protection Act” that would shield customers from soaring electricity costs from AI data centers. House Speaker Mike Johnson sent Congress home to avoid a vote on this until after the midterms, as well as no vote on AI safeguards, and no vote on Defense Dept.’s Pete Hegseth’s impeachment. “Speaker Johnson’s actions are depriving you of your representation and is moving power to the White House ...so President Trump can do whatever he wants.” (Heather Cox Richardson, PhD historian)

Geoffrey Hinton, Nobel Prize winning computer scientist whose research paved the way for how today’s AI systems function recently stated, “We have no idea how we can stay in control... it seems very stupid to develop superintelligence.” President Trump, who has along with his sons significant investments in the technology and claims he’s “very intelligent,” is against AI regulations and safeguards that would slow down development.

Republican Senator Thomas Massie has introduced articles of impeachment against Hegseth that center around the illegality and unconstitutionality of ignoring the 1973 War Powers Act. CBS has reported 100s of buildings and planes have been destroyed as a result of the war on Iran (pict’s were leaked by active service members who feel they are not being protected), and munitions are significantly depleted, which Donald Trump and Hegseth have repeatedly denied. Speaker Johnson likely doesn’t want a vote on this impeachment because if the vote is against it, that would imply they are in favor of the Iran war (which is very unpopular with the American people)...or if the house votes for impeachment, that would cause a stand against Pres. Trump (who is close to Hegseth).

Other disturbing news

• Donald Trump broke federal law (18 US Code, Section 597-Offer of an expenditure to vote a certain way) and state laws against bribing voters reports Glenn Kirschner (former 30-year federal prosecutor).

• Congress, on a bipartisan basis passed (over Pres. Trump’s veto) a law-Corporate Transparency Act, that would enable oversight of where illegal money was coming into our political system. Donald Trump pushed for this oversight to end and all data already collected will be destroyed.

• D.O.J. refuses to comply with judge’s order to justify redactions to Epstein Files, a real crisis for the rule of law in the US, says H.C. Richardson.

*Federal agency-US Citizenship & Immunity Services are rejecting and heavily redacting (and even claiming they don’t exist) vital documents and records needed by immigrants to prove they have permission to be in the US and fight their deportation, said lawyers who spoke to the NY Times as reported on DemocracyNow.

• More news organizations are being denied White House entry by Donald Trump (violating First Amendment rights).

More conservatives are pushing back against this administration

• Carl Rove (“Texas right-wing guru”) stated, “He’s voting for a Democrat in Texas this year because the MAGA & Republican party have become so extreme in their focus on white nationalism.”

*Wall Street Journal Editorial Board (very right-wing leaning) is shifting to an anti-Trump position according to H.C. Richardson.

• Conservative Judge J. Michael Ludig said recently “It would be hard to find one Congressional Republican with the integrity, sense of duty to country, honor, and courage to put America above the Republican party, let alone Donald Trump.”

I’ll close with very important words from H.C. Richardson: “The American people need to make it clear, peacefully, that we reject this attempt to destroy our Democracy. Now is the time, our chance, to reorganize politically and to create a new future.”
