MARGARETVILLE - Opening Friday, April 24, the Members’ Spring Group Show will debut at the Longyear Gallery, offering a panoramic look at the diverse output of the area’s creative community.
The exhibition, which runs through May 24, serves as an annual bellwether for the local arts scene, showcasing a collective energy that spans a variety of mediums and styles.
The centerpiece of this season’s programming is a formal introduction to the gallery’s newest addition, artist Ray Curran. In a dedicated debut exhibit titled “The Waterfront in Watercolor,” Curran explores the fluid, often ephemeral relationship between light and the shoreline.
Curran’s work arrives at a moment when the region’s own waterways are swelling with the spring thaw. His focus on the waterfront—a subject that has captivated watercolorists from Winslow Homer to John Singer Sargent—promises a technical study in transparency and motion, capturing the specific, quiet moods of the water’s edge.
The gallery will host an opening reception on Saturday, April 25, from 3 to 5 p.m., providing an opportunity for the public to meet Curran and the contributing members of the group show.
The event marks the beginning of the gallery’s expanded spring and summer schedule. For those looking to navigate the new collection, the gallery has moved to its seasonal hours, remaining open to the public Friday through Sunday, from 12 to 5 p.m.
