MARGARETVILLE — Fairview Public Library will welcome internationally exhibited artist and educator Roshan Houshmand for Making Merit, a two-part series exploring Tibetan Buddhist art, symbolism, creativity, mindfulness, and meditation.
Houshmand will be at Fairview Public Library, 43 Walnut Street in Margaretville, on Sept. 12 from noon to 2 p.m and Sept. 19 from noon to 3 p.m. The series is free and open to the public.
The two-part Making Merit series will begin with an informal presentation on Tibetan Buddhist art, including traditional motifs and symbolism. The second session will build on those ideas through painting and drawing, giving participants an opportunity to explore a creative process with intention and awareness while incorporating mindfulness and meditation.
Participants should plan to attend both sessions, as the second session builds on the ideas and concepts introduced in the first. Space for the workshop is limited.
Houshmand brings an international perspective to the series. She has studied traditional Tibetan Buddhist thangka drawing and painting at Shechen Monastery’s Tsering Art School in Nepal. A recipient of numerous grants and awards, Houshmand is an online adjunct drawing instructor at Southern New Hampshire University. She lives and works in Andes, New York.
