NEW KINGSTON - The New Kingston Valley Association’s annual Whoop-De-Doo will return Aug. 28 and 29, with two days of storytelling, hiking, theater, music, food and community activities.
All events are free and open to the public and will be held primarily at the newly renovated Community Center in the New Kingston Presbyterian Church.
The weekend begins Friday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., with an opportunity for residents and visitors to share and hear stories celebrating the people and history of New Kingston.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, a guided hike through the New Kingston Valley will run from 9 to 11 a.m. For details email newkingstonvalleyassociation@gmail.com
A new 30-minute melodrama, “Love Is Love,” will be performed from 5 to 5:30 p.m. at the church. Written and directed by Marjorie Miller, the play is set in 19th-century New Kingston and follows the arrival of visitors from Colchester seeking revenge over romantic entanglements.
The cast includes Zamyra Maxim, Lisa Light, Kendra Lacey, Annie Pevear, Amy Rae and Francis “Frank” Carbone.
A community potluck supper will follow from 6 to 9 p.m., with live music. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
An art exhibition will be on display in the Community Center, and drinks will be available for purchase from Catskill Tap and Ladder Company.
The Whoop-De-Doo is organized by the New Kingston Valley Association.
