Bassett Healthcare Network’s O’Connor Hospital in central New York has been named one of the Best Hospitals for Emergency Timeliness by the Women’s Choice Award®, a national distinction signifying that O’Connor Hospital has some of the shortest emergency room wait times and highest patient recommendations among the top 13% of more than 4,600 U.S. hospitals.

Emergency departments are an essential part of the healthcare system as they provide fast, life-or-limb-saving care to millions each year. Unlike other hospital departments that may interact with patients and families for an extended period, ER caregivers typically have fleeting patient encounters, often when anxiety and fear is at its peak, making time of the essence.

The Best Hospitals for Emergency Timeliness Award is unique in that its criteria combines Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey recommendation results with process of care measures – focusing on the total time patients spend in the emergency department and the percentage of emergency patients who left without being seen.

O’Connor Hospital is certified as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) and provides inpatient care, emergency care, short-stay inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, specialty services, and diagnostic testing.

O’Connor Hospital is one of 606 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for emergency timeliness in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award.
