Ogden Library Prepares for Fall

“I have found the most valuable thing in my wallet is my library card.” Laura Bush

September is nearly here which means fall is just around the corner. Upstate New York is beautiful this time of year, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful fall season at the library.

After dusting ourselves off from our record-breaking Summer Reading Program—congratulations to everyone who participated — we’re ready to lean into the cooler months with fun programs and activities.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! If you don’t have a library card yet, now is the time to get one. Library cards are free and offer so much more than books. You can access digital lending, borrow unique items like fishing poles and light therapy lamps, explore language-learning tools, and more.

Staff is excited to welcome back some favorite programs as everyone settles into the back-to-school routine. Sensory Play returns Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8. This hands-on play session is designed for children from birth through age 5. Preschool Storytime returns Fridays at 10:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 11, with stories, songs, and crafts. LEGO Club meets Friday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m. for elementary-aged kids and older where they can build, create, and free-build with LEGO bricks while enjoying some light refreshments.

We’re especially excited about our next chef series event, Pizza on the Lawn, Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn to make pizza dough, and bake their personal pizzas in an outdoor pizza oven. This adults-only program requires registration and we expect it to fill quickly so call the library early to sign up. Pairs - register together and share a pizza and dough. Participants should bring their own toppings including eight ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese and one or two additional toppings.

Fall is also the perfect time to explore the area. The library is hosting a Read & Go Bus Trip where participants will read a book, take part in a book discussion, and then visit a location connected to the book. Participants will attend the Read & Go Book Discussion Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 6:30–8 p.m. after reading a book related to West Point. Then, Friday, Oct. 16, the group will head to West Point Military Academy. This trip includes charter bus transportation, a catered lunch, and a two-hour tour of West Point. Thanks to grant funding, the trip is free to attend but a $40 refundable deposit is required.

We’re excited to welcome back many of our monthly programs, introduce some fun new ones, and enjoy all that fall offers here at the library. Come see what your library has waiting for you.
