Paper Takes Center Stage in Roxbury Arts Center Exhibition

ROXBURY — Four artists exploring the possibilities of paper as both medium and subject will be featured in In the Fold, a new exhibition opening July 11 at the Walter Meade Gallery at the Roxbury Arts Center.

The exhibition brings together works by Audineh Asaf, Carole Kunstadt, Hedi Kyle and Natalia Petkov, whose practices range from collage and mixed media to book arts and sculptural paper constructions. Through folding, cutting and reimagining familiar materials, the artists transform paper into works that blur the boundaries between craft, sculpture and fine art.

Among the featured artists is Kyle, a pioneering figure in book arts whose innovative folded structures have influenced generations of artists and conservators. The exhibition also includes work by Asaf, whose recent projects have focused on human rights issues in Iran; Kunstadt, known for incorporating antique texts and manuscripts into her work; and Petkov, a multimedia artist whose practice engages with the natural world.

An opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. July 11. The exhibition will remain on view through Sept. 5.

The Walter Meade Gallery is located at the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free.
