Posted

A precision manure application field day will be held Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Joleanna Holsteins, 309 Covered Bridge Road, Unadilla. The event is organized by the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District in cooperation with its local partners Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County and the Watershed Agricultural Council.

The day will feature morning discussions about the crop nutrient value and variability of manure, local research on impact of manure applications to corn and sod yield and quality, and the use of precision ag technology for manure applications.

Following a barbecued beef lunch, afternoon sessions will include manure gas safety training, semi-solid manure application demonstrations with variable rate capable spreaders, manure truck safety inspection training, and manure injection demonstrations in both stubble and sod, including one tool bar developed specifically for sod.

The first 20 New York farms with liquid manure storage that register and attend are eligible to receive a free manure gas alert monitor and training courtesy of the John May Safety Fund at the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health.

Cost for the day is $10 per person. RSVP to Donna Wood by Sept. 4 at 607-865-7090 or donna-wood@dcswcd.org

This event is supported through Conservation Innovation Grants program as USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service and through Sustainable Chesapeake.
