As schools close and summer schedules begin to fill, the American Red Cross is urging residents to schedule blood and platelet donations this month to help stabilize the seasonal blood supply.
The organization said donation appointments often decline in late spring and early summer as travel, graduations and end-of-school activities disrupt routines.
Donors who give between May 1 and May 17 will receive a $20 Amazon gift card by email. Those donating May 18 through May 31 wll receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel while supplies last.
Upcoming local blood drives include:
• May 11, Delaware County Public Safety Building, Delhi
• May 11, Downsville Central School, Downsville
• May 15, Deposit Central School, Deposit
• May 15, Margaretville Fire Department, Margaretville
• May 19, American Legion Post 183, Sidney
• May 22, Delhi United Ministry, Delhi
• May 23, Community Cultural Center of the Sidney Arts & Cultural Exchange Group, Sidney
• May 29, Roxbury Town Hall, Roxbury
Appointments can be scheduled through Red Cross Blood Services, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or through the Red Cross Blood Donor app.
