Hands-on class invites beginners to ‘paint’ with wool at Headwaters Arts Center

STAMFORD - The Roxbury Arts Group will host a beginner-friendly fiber arts workshop next month, introducing participants to the craft of needle felting - a technique that uses barbed needles to shape wool into detailed, painterly designs.

The class, Needle Felting with Elizabeth Yates, is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Headwaters Arts Center. Registration is now open.

Led by artist Elizabeth Yates, the workshop will guide participants through the creation of a spring hyacinth design, offering an introduction to the tactile qualities of wool and the techniques used to manipulate it into two-dimensional compositions. All tools and materials will be provided, and attendees will leave with a framed piece of original artwork.

Yates, whose work is inspired by natural forms, color and texture, has built a practice around transforming loose wool fibers into intricate “paintings.” In addition to exhibiting at art shows and festivals, she regularly teaches workshops that emphasize experimentation and close observation.

The session is offered with tiered pricing at $45, $65 and $80, part of the organization’s effort to broaden access to arts programming. Details on pricing and registration are available at the Roxbury Arts Group website.

Headwaters Arts Center is 66 Main Street, Stamford. For more information visit roxburyartsgroup.org
