The Headwaters Music and Arts Festival will transform Stamford’s Main Street into a vibrant cultural adventure zone that combines porchfest style performances with a variety of engaging community art projects Saturday, July 19, from 12-4 p.m. A map with schedule information will be available at the Headwaters Arts Center as well as various downtown locations along the festival route and online at roxburyartsgroup.org Call Headwaters Center for the Arts at 607-214-6040 if you need more information.
The Headwaters Music and Arts festival creates an intimate, wandering experience where you might catch the haunting melodies of a lute drifting, then step outside to hear the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Colombian percussion echoing from the fire department from across the street. This year’s lineup includes singers Olivia Fornasieri, Karen Anderson, Garth Kravitz, blue-grass stylings from Dusty Miller (Jeff Grippin) and Alex Riba’s unique blend of piano, vocals and comedy. Instrumentalists featured include lutenist Frederic Chrislip, cellist Alexandra Moiseeva, the Catwalk Percussion Ensemble, violin prodigy Ayana Murthy, saxophonist Michael Waters, Guitar Sandwich featuring guitar, trumpet and bass. A number of unique projects will also be featured such as traditional afrocolombian music and dance from Llamaró, singer/songwriter originals from E.C. Void, world ecological black metal from Grindmaw, smooth indie pop from Suave Danny, rock from Sue’s Garage and original tunes and interesting instrumentation from Home Visitor.
The festival will also feature hands-on community arts projects including Strobe-lit portraits and mini iPhone lighting workshops with photographer Mark Burnham at Headwaters Arts Center; an opportunity to share notes of gratitude with the community with Notes for Neighbors. Engagement coordinator Rod Sauquillo will offer a collective landscape painting project that will evolve throughout the day, a great backdrop for a photo opportunity.
What makes this festival unique is its human scale. You’ll run into neighbors, discover new local artists, and your creative juices will flow.
