ARKVILLE — Roxbury Arts Group will host an evening of art-making and conversation Aug. 7 as part of its Creative Waves series, inviting adults to create mixed-media collages while exploring themes of water, community and sustainability.
The event, “Cup and a Canvas: Interactive Collage Workshop,” will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Catskill Water Discovery Center, 669 County Highway 38. The workshop is open to participants ages 21 and older.
Led by Bronx-based multimedia artist Dennis RedMoon Darkeem, the session will encourage participants to create personal collage pieces using a variety of materials, including paint, fabric, found objects and markers. Signature cocktails and nonalcoholic beverages will be available during the workshop, which concludes with an informal discussion about participants’ work and creative process.
The event is the second installment in the Creative Waves Art at Night series, designed to bring community members together through art, conversation and shared reflection on the region’s waterways. Organizers said the series uses visual art, food and other cultural activities to encourage dialogue about environmental stewardship, local culture and community connections.
Tickets are available on a sliding scale of $10, $20 or $30, with proceeds supporting the program. Registration and additional information are available through Roxbury Arts Group.
The workshop is part of Creative Waves, a broader arts and environmental initiative developed by Darkeem in partnership with Roxbury Arts Group and the Catskill Water Discovery Center. The program includes a summer arts camp for youth, adult workshops, the Community Drops Collective Banner Project and will culminate with the Gathering Waters Community Celebration on Aug. 8.
Darkeem, an interdisciplinary artist and educator, creates mixed-media works exploring cultural identity, environmental change and community engagement through storytelling and sustainable art practices.
