Seedlings and Stewardship: Fundraiser Supports New Farmland Access Initiative

DELHI - Gardeners looking to fill their plots this spring can also help cultivate opportunities for local farmers.

Bushel will host a seedling sale from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 14 to benefit the West Branch Commons, a community land trust working to provide secure, affordable access to farmland for marginalized farmers in Delaware County.

The fundraiser will offer vegetable and flower starts ready for transplanting into home gardens. Organizers are asking visitors to make a donation in exchange for seedlings, with proceeds supporting the land trust’s efforts to expand access to agricultural land.

West Branch Commons was established to address barriers that many beginning and underserved farmers face in securing long-term access to land. The organization aims to create stable growing opportunities while strengthening the county’s agricultural community.

The event combines a seasonal gardening tradition with a broader effort to support local food production and farm equity.

Residents are invited to browse the selection of seedlings, prepare their gardens for the growing season and contribute to a project focused on preserving agricultural opportunities in the Catskills.
