For hikers looking to trade the last days of summer for Catskill trails, the Catskill Mountain Club has scheduled seven member-led outings this month, ranging from day hikes over several high peaks to a loop around Mongaup Pond.
The 22-year-old nonprofit organizes free hiking, paddling and biking trips throughout the Catskill Mountains and advocates for nonmotorized outdoor recreation. The club’s September schedule includes hikes of varying lengths and difficulty.
The schedule begins Saturday, Sept. 12, with a trek over Balsam, Eagle, Fir and Big Indian mountains from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The following day, hikers can tackle Slide, Wittenberg and Cornell mountains from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The club will return to the trails Tuesday, Sept. 15, for a hike of West Kill Mountain from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Two outings are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20. One will take hikers to Balsam Lake Mountain via Mill Brook Ridge from Alder Lake, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The other is a Mongaup Pond loop, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The month’s final outings include a section of the Long Path south of Route 23A on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a Sept. 26 hike over Plateau, Sugarloaf, Twin and Indian Head mountains from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
