Sidney: a Weekly Dance Series Invites Community to Move Together

‘Body and Soul Dance’ launches at Community Cultural Center

This summer, a new community dance series aims to bring residents together through movement, rhythm, and shared expression. Beginning Sunday, June 15, from noon to 2 p.m., the Sidney Community Cultural Center will host Body and Soul Dance, a weekly gathering led by Colleen Blacklock, a local dance instructor, and accompanied by percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Chuck Wood.

The series will offer an eclectic blend of movement styles—ranging from structured sequences and group choreography to improvisational free dance, rhythmic exercises, and traditional circle dances. Organizers describe the gatherings as part class, part celebration, designed to foster both connection and individual creativity in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Open to all experience levels, the sessions are intended for anyone who enjoys dance—or simply wants to try. A suggested donation of $10 helps support the program, which will continue on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 19 and 26; July 3; Friday, July 11; and Thursdays July 24, 31, and August 7, 14, and 21.

The Sidney Community Cultural Center is located at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney.
