WEBSTER - Sidney’s Dejah Taylor and Michael Morrissey capped standout seasons with top-five finishes at the 2026 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships held June 13-14 at Webster Schroeder High School.
Taylor delivered one of the area’s strongest performances, placing second in the girls 400-meter dash in 56.76 seconds to earn state runner-up honors. She also reached the finals of the girls 200-meter dash, finishing sixth in the state with a time of 25.69 seconds after qualifying through the preliminary round in 25.15.
Morrissey turned in a pair of podium finishes in the boys throwing events. The Sidney senior placed second in the discus with a throw of 158 feet, 1 inch and added a fifth-place finish in the shot put at 55-7.75.
Also representing Sidney, Lennon Swain competed in the girls shot put and recorded a throw of 32-3.5.
For Unatego/Franklin, Zack Sousa earned a top-10 finish in the boys discus, placing ninth with a throw of 136-9. Teammate Derek Jordan also finished ninth in the boys shot put with a mark of 47-7.
Stamford’s Lelend Donato competed in the boys high jump and cleared 5-10 at the state meet.
Walton-Downsville’s boys 4x800-meter relay team, consisting of Nate Harrington, Gavin Harrington, Eli Williams and Kai Storrer, posted a time of 8:15.31 in championship competition.
The meet brought together the top athletes from across New York State, with Taylor’s runner-up finish and Morrissey’s pair of medal-winning performances highlighting a strong showing for Delaware County and surrounding area athletes on the state’s biggest track and field stage.
