Sidney Memorial Public Library, 8 River Street (phone 607-563-1200; facebook.com/sidneylibrary) is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Crafts and Creations with Miss C is held Thursdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. for children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. The artist exhibit for December and January is Keiko M. H., an oil painter, in the Smart Community Room.
There will be an interactive movie Thursday, Dec. 26 at 6 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m. Participants will be prompted to do certain tasks while watching family holiday favorite “Elf” with Will Ferrell, rated PG; runtime is one hour and 17 minutes; Smart Community Room.
Note: the library will be closed Wednesday, Jan 1; closing at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31.
A new and gently used sneaker drive is being held by the Elks Lodge, 104 River Street. They will accept boys, girls, teen and adult shoes. Drop-off at the Lodge anytime after 3 p.m. Donations will help supply Sidney Central School District students to safely participate in physical education classes.
The Tri-County Senior Center in the rear of the hospital building, 43 Pearl Street is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Current activities include a social hour for Veterans plus seated exercise on the first Wednesday of the month; a movie on the second Wednesday; exercise or Xbox bowling on the third Wednesday; and a monthly meeting and social hour at 10:15 on the fourth Wednesday; Pitch and Hand and Foot card games Thursdays, and Mahjong on Fridays. Board games, puzzles, DVDs and books are always available for use at the center or at home, and new activities can be scheduled whenever there is interest. Food Bank is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. located at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street.
Catholic Charities Emergency Food Pantry, 21 Liberty Street, is open by appointment Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The United Presbyterian Church of East Guilford has a Blessing Box regularly filled with non-perishable food, fresh fruit and veggies and personal hygiene items for those in need. It is available 24/7 at a drive-up location in the parking lot of the church. Take only what you need today and leave what you can for others in need. It is requested that the donations left in the box are food/hygiene items, no household goods.

Tour Unadilla to see the homes decorated for the holiday season. Holiday Lights decorating contest winners: Lights, Lights, Lights - Dwight Mott, 41 Ontio Terrace, Reason for the Season - Gerry Green, 309 Main and Themed Christmas by Melody Schutz, 19 Clifton. Other participating locations are 37 Maple Street, 8 Clifton, 214 Main, 137 Main, 225 Main, 343 Main, 4 Church, 1004 Route 7 and 769 Sheep Pen Road. The contest was sponsored by the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce.
The village clerk’s office is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Closed for lunch, then 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 9 to noon.
Village board meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of the month beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Firehouse, 77 Clifton Street.
The Teen Center (Youth for Christ Central New York) 16 Watson Street is open every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. for all youth 11 to 18. Enjoy arcade, air hockey, ping pong, video games and more. The Unatego Central School District is collecting items for the hygiene closet including deodorant, hair brushes, hair ties, maxi pads, tampons, shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste/toothbrushes, and underwear - any size. Travel sizes are acceptable. Items may be dropped off at the elementary or high school and House of Consignment. Donated items are available for students to take as needed.
The Unadilla Elementary School is part of the recycling plastic film challenge sponsored by the Otsego County Conservation Assn., Otsego County Solid Waste Department and Casella Waste Management. Collecting clean, dry plastic film helps keep it out of the landfill. This years challenge runs through April 12 and the Trex Challenge runs the same time. Recycled items include bread bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shipping envelopes, Ziploc and other re-closable food storage bags, cereal bags, case overwrap, salt bags, stretch film and produce bags. Plastics can be dropped at the student /bus door at the school. If you want a special student/grade to receive credit, mention their name when you drop off theplastic.
