Meredith Historical Society will sponsor a program titled, “Slaves to All Intents and Purposes: Slavery in Colonial New York 1609-1712,” presented by Ryan Jones Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the former Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, 10044 Elk Creek Road, East Meredith.
Before New York became a leader in the fight against slavery, it was firmly entrenched in the institution. Jones is adjunct lecturer at SUNY Oneonta. He is also a historian and documentary film maker with masters degrees in both history and public history. His research interests include slavery, abolitionism, and the Underground Railroad in New York.
The public is cordially invited. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. For more information call 607-746-8083.
