Soap Box Dreams Set to Roll Into Unadilla as Summer Series Begins

SIDNEY — The sound of wheels racing downhill will kick off the Cullman Child Development Center’s annual summer programming this July, as young builders and aspiring engineers take to Clifton Street for a community Soap Box Derby.

Scheduled for Sunday, July 13, the event invites participants ages 8 and older to design and build their own gravity-powered race cars, relying on craftsmanship and creativity rather than engines or motors.

Organizers are encouraging builders of all experience levels to participate, whether they are seasoned derby racers or first-time tinkerers.

Registration is now open at ccdcderby.com, with prospective racers asked to sign up by June 20.

The derby serves as the opening event in the Cullman Summer Series, a family-oriented initiative that combines recreation with hands-on educational experiences.

Later in the month, the series will continue with Ag Day on July 25 at Keith Clark Park on River Street in Sidney. The event will highlight local agriculture, food systems and outdoor learning through activities designed for families and children.

Organizers say the annual summer series is intended to provide opportunities for participants to learn through experience while strengthening connections to their community.
