Stamford Arts and Wellness Group to Give Women a Place to Create and Connect

Posted

STAMFORD — The Headwaters Arts Center and Stamford Wellness Center will launch a monthly Women’s Art & Wellness Studio in October, offering a space for women to explore creative activities while focusing on mindfulness, connection and personal well-being.

The group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, beginning Oct. 1, at Headwaters Arts Center, 66 Main St.

The sessions will be led by Carrie Sutton, MHC-LP, and Kristin Stevenson. Organizers describe the program as a support group rather than an art class, using creative activities, prompts and discussion to encourage self-awareness, resilience and community.

Each meeting will begin with a simple creative exercise intended to help participants relax and focus. Participants will then have an opportunity to discuss their experiences in a supportive setting.

The program is free, with a suggested donation of $5. Registration is required through the Roxbury Arts Group website at roxburyartsgroup.org

Sutton is a person-centered therapist and Navy veteran who also volunteers as an emergency medical technician. Her work incorporates a holistic approach to wellness and emphasizes the role of community in personal growth. Stevenson is an artist and teacher and the program director at Headwaters Arts Center. Her work there includes developing arts education and exhibition programs for children and adults.
