The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, working with affected counties, has launched an online tool for residents and businesses to report damage from recent storms.
The Damage Self Report tool will help state and county officials document storm damage and determine whether additional requests for federal assistance may be warranted. It is not an application for disaster assistance and does not guarantee eligibility for relief.
Reporting damage is voluntary and does not replace filing a claim with an insurance company.
A separate survey should be submitted for each affected housing unit or business. The tool applies only to properties damaged in New York.
Residents and business owners should be prepared to provide the date and location of the damage, whether the property is a primary residence, whether it is owned or rented, and whether the property is a residence or business. The survey also asks about disruptions to transportation or employment and whether the property is located within a federally recognized Tribal Nation.
Other information requested includes the type and cause of damage, insurance coverage, photographs of the damage and contact information for the person submitting the report.
Insurance information may include homeowners or renters insurance and flood insurance.
Residents who cannot access the online form or need assistance completing it can contact the Delaware County Planning Department at 607-832-5444. Hancock residents may contact Fire Chief Blaise Bojo at 607-427-0238.
