Steve was born on Aug. 2, 1930 in Zirndorf nr. Nuremberg, Germany. His father, Julius Meinstein, was a cattle dealer and ran his business until Hitler demanded all Jews leave.
The Meinstein family left for America and settled in Nineveh at Bettsburg Farms. He spent the happiest years of his life helping his Dad on the farm. Circumstances forced a move to an apartment in New York City. One day his father caught a bus to Fleischmanns where he purchased a resort hotel in the Catskills. Steve helped running Villa Meinstein with his parents and it was in Fleischmanns that he attended school, graduating in 1949.
In 1950, together with his Dad, he bought a farm in Margaretville, where he toiled for over 60 years producing milk and dealing in cattle. On a hayfield nearby he developed a par-3, 9-hole golf course and driving range, adjoining the mini golf.
In 1985 he and June, with whom he had two daughters Caroline Kazdan and Juliette Kadosh, began a “snowbird” existence at Jacksonville Beach, Florida, for 32 years. In 2017 they retired to The Coves, an independent-living facility in Jacksonville.
Steve leaves two grandchildren, his wife of 63 years, and his daughters.
On May 5 he died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, as was his wish.
