On March 9, 2023, the Delaware County Board of Supervisors clerk sent a letter signed by department heads and supervisors to the publisher of The Reporter alleging articles published over the past several years have been “written in an inflammatory manner” and include “misrepresented or omitted” facts and “editorial remarks.”
A copy of the letter (already made public), dated March 8, 2023, is attached.
The Reporter takes its responsibility to provide accurate and reliable information to our readers very seriously, and believes that journalism plays a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and civic engagement, and The Reporter is committed to upholding the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.
It has always been the policy of The Reporter to publish a correction if a reporting error has been made. The Reporter also accepts letters to the editor.
The Reporter encourages everyone to engage in a fair and honest discourse based on facts and evidence. This is not only the right thing to do, but is essential for maintaining the health and vitality of our democratic system.
The Reporter will continue to cover county government without bias, furthering our mission as a government watchdog. The Reporter will not be deterred. We have retained legal counsel to determine the circumstances of the letter signing as well as the de-designation of this paper.
