The Walton Central School Class of 2025 has an exciting option for higher education, and students will dive deeper into learning about it starting Oct. 21.

The College Express Program will give O’Neill High School seniors the opportunity to be instantly accepted into SUNY Broome Community College. The Oct. 21 event will kickoff a series of informational sessions designed to introduce students to SUNY Broome over the coming months.

Walton High School Principal Art Loomis said as principal, he’s always looking for ways to expand opportunities for students, and he believes the College Express Program is an incredible pathway for students to take the next step toward their future.

In a press release, Loomis said thanks to the work of the  student services department, the partnership with SUNY Broome simplifies the college application process and opens doors to higher education that some students may have thought was out of reach.

“It’s exciting to see our seniors have such a direct path to success, and I fully support any initiative that gives them more options to thrive beyond high school,” Loomis said.

As part of the partnership, graduating seniors are instantly admitted to SUNY Broome, should they choose to attend the college.

For the remainder of the year, representatives from the college will return to WCS to provide an overview of the school’s academic divisions, financial aid, and host career workshops to help students map out how SUNY Broome can support their career goals, and more.

Students will have the opportunity to visit SUNY Broome to see and hear firsthand about some of the programs that are offered.
