Stop the presses. The Disney film turned Tony-winning Broadway hit inspires everyone to fight for what’s right and seize the day.

The Walton Central School District music department is carrying the banner on stage with Disney’s Newsies! Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28. A senior show – which is free for senior citizens, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26.

All shows are at the high school auditorium. Tickets for the shows on Friday and Saturday are $8 for adults and $6 for students. If you purchase tickets in advance (available at Walton Music House and the high school office), prices are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

The production features senior Eli Williams in the role of Jack, senior Maddox Little as Davey, and senior Kahrin Vesterfelt as Katherine Plumber.

Inspired by a true story, Newsies tells the tale of Jack Kelly, the charismatic leader of a group of teenage newsies, who take a David vs. Goliath stand against the newspaper giants of the era. They fight to shine a light on the unfair working conditions for thousands of children across New York City. Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills, songs, dances and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.
