Watercolor Workshop Invites Artists to Rethink What They See

STAMFORD — The Roxbury Arts Group will host an abstract watercolor session led by painter and educator Kamilla Talbot Saturday, June 13, at the Headwaters Arts Center. The program, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., centers less on producing a finished image than on reinterpreting the visual world through color, form and gesture.

Participants will work from both observation and imagination, using prompts and guided exercises to translate familiar surroundings into abstraction. The emphasis is on process — how a painting develops — rather than outcome, with time set aside for discussion and individual feedback.

Talbot, known for her loose watercolor technique, teaches at the Art Students League of New York and has led workshops at institutions across the region. Her approach encourages experimentation, particularly for those new to abstraction.

The session is open to all experience levels. Attendees may bring their own watercolor or gouache materials, though supplies will also be available on site. Pricing is offered on a sliding scale of $25, $40 or $50.

The workshop is part of a broader slate of programs supported by state arts funding and regional foundations, along with local business sponsors. Register at roxburyartsgroup.org
