“After a very wet start last week and we had thunderstorms and rain giving us almost 2 inches worth, a high pressure moved in and cleared things up. We had pleasant temperatures. We had sunshine and it was very nice Labor Day extended weekend.
This allowed some people to go out and clean up, and for the rest of us, either push or get on your lawn mower and catch up with all that grass, which hasn’t stopped growing this entire summer. That, plus last minute school shopping kept everybody busy, but nobody seemed upset.
Monday, Sept. 7, believe it or not, you had to put on a sweatshirt because when you stepped outside, it was 45 degrees. But the sun came out and we had a very pleasant 73. Tuesday, Sept. 8, started at 49, but then it was a beautiful 76 in the afternoon. Then it started clouding over. And that’s what happened, Wednesday, Sept. 9. Late in the day, into the evening, we got showers first, and then a cold front moved through, with a band of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Even though we’ve had four days of no rain in the recent past, the ground is still quite saturated, so we don’t need any heavy downpours, but we can’t control that.
But anyway, they put out a full color change outlook, and this year looks like a good one. There’s no tree stress this year. So if the temperature and moisture are right, it’s going to be beautiful. You might remember last year where trees were already somewhere half bare, others were totally bare. Everything was dropping everything, and it was a rather muted, ugly kind of fall. Let’s hope for a good one this year.
Anyway, school has started. Things are going along and after today’s front comes through, it’s going to stay in the 70s. So go out and enjoy it, keep smiling. Have a good one.” ~ Frank Ward
