Posted

Catskills Old-time Music in the Mountains is hosting their second annual community fundraising square dance at the fire department pavilion in Andes on July 13th. Everyone is invited; this is a fun event for all the family. From 3:30-4.30 p.m. there will be a family-friendly old-time music and dance workshop; from 5-5:30 p.m. there will be a square dance workshop - learn the basics, and from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. there will be square dancing.

This year the event will kick off with an old-time workshop for all the family incorporating music, song, story and dance. This workshop will be followed by a square dance lesson for people to learn the basics before the main dance kicks off.

Local fiddler Becca Wintle will be joined by musicians Maggie Shar from Massachusetts, Joe DeJarnette from New York City, and Susie Goering from Ohio. Vermont’s finest dance caller Will Mentor will be calling the first half of the dance and then the wonderful Nancy Spero from Ithaca will take the helm.

Proceeds from this event will support the Andes Fire Department, the Andes Food Pantry and the Andes Central School music department. The suggested donation for entry is $20 per person. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Bring cash as accept credit cards or online payment are not accepted.

This project is made possible in part with funds from the Delaware County Arts Grants, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Delaware County by the Roxbury Arts Group.
