Cannon Library offers new books, group activities, and more

Susan M. Frisbee, director of the Cannon Free Library, 40 Elm Street, Delhi, suggests a visit to the library.

The “New” shelf is full, Frisbee says of books you’ve heard about like Daniel Mason’s “North Woods,” David Grann’s “The Wager,” Jesmyn Ward’s “Let Us Descend,” and books that you’ve probably never heard of - like “The Bitter Past,” by Bruce Borgos and “Kissing Kosher,” by Jean Meltzer. Borrow a DVD from the vast selection, or request one from the even vaster selection of the 43 libraries in the system. If you still have a CD player in your car, borrow an audio book to enjoy as you drive.

Dare to join the knitting circle Wednesday mornings from 10 until noon, or the mahjong players Thursday afternoons from noon to 4. Share your work with other writers on the second Wednesdays of the month from 1 to 2. The book club will meet to discuss Nella Larson’s Passing at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Youth Services Librarian Ms. Lynn hosts a popular toddler/preschool Storytime Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning at 10:30. Stories, songs, crafts and social interaction enjoyed as much by the caregivers as by the child attendees.

Grade school children and their parents should be aware of next week’s STEM workshop. Those attending will create artistic renditions of bodily systems. Lego Club meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 and a Community Cares valentine-making workshop will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Visit the library Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 - 7 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. through the winter.
