In a large bowl combine flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add remaining ingredients; stir just until moistened (batter may be lumpy). Fill greased or paper lined muffin cups two thirds full. My Thoughts of the week: The days are getting longer. When it gets warmer we’ll be able to get out and do things outside in the yard. It will soon be time to start planting gardens.

Lynn Kinch’s joke of the week: Two people had a happy marriage despite their not-quite-compatible interests. He was crazy about golf and she spent all her free time at antique auctions. One night, he cried out in his sleep “Fore!” She, also sleeping, responded, “Four-fifty!”

Senior Moments: A little boy was looking at his grandfather dozing in an easy chair. He turned to his grandmother and said: “Why does grandpa sleep so much?” The elderly woman looked down at her grandson and smiled. “The same reason you spend so much time playing outside.” “Because it’s fun?” the little boy asked. “No. To avoid doing chores.”

A cute saying: Where flowers bloom so does hope.

Helpful Hints: Bread gets that stale taste not when it dries out but when it absorbs moisture which causes its starch granules to form hard crystals. So keep your loaf out of the humid fridge and store it in a cool dry place like your countertop or bread box, freezing is OK, too, as it slows this crystallization process.

Worship services for the DeLancey, Hamden and West Delhi Presbyterian Churches during April will be held in the West Delhi church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Connie Stone.
