The Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society (DOAS) invites local community members to join an upcoming family program. The programs focus on birds, nature, and the environment — all open to the public at no cost.

The summer family programs are scheduled as follows:

• Friday, July 12 – Craft Day from 9:30–11:30 a.m.

• Monday, July 29 – Seniors Slow Birding Walk from 8:30–10:30 a.m.

• Friday, Aug. 2 – What Happens After Dark from 7:30–9:30 p.m.

Audubon Society membership is not required, but attendees will need to register online at doas.us/summer2024

All programs will take place at the DOAS Sanctuary, 52 Grange Hall Road Spur in Oneonta. More information about each program (including rain dates) can be found at doas.us/calendar

The DOAS Sanctuary is one of the area’s top birding destinations. The sanctuary is open every day of the year from dawn to dusk and is home to the Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch, a network of trails, wetlands, open fields, protected natural habitats, and many species of wildlife.

According to Susan O’Handley, DOAS Education Committee Chair, “The Sanctuary is one of our organization’s most important assets. We’ve been managing the sanctuary on Franklin Mountain since 1978 and yet there are so many people in our area that aren’t aware that it exists. We are making an effort to offer additional programming to increase exposure and are investing in site improvements to promote accessibility and belonging in order to send a clear message that birding is for everybody!”

The Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society is proud to present these free program opportunities for children, parents, and grandparents to experience nature and learn about our local environment. DOAS operates on a membership and donation basis, so while these programs are open to the public, donations and memberships are always appreciated.
