DelCo Youth Bureau grant funding for youth sports and education available

The Delaware County Youth Bureau has announced Youth Sports and Education Opportunity Funding (YSEF), Youth Sports and Education Opportunity Funding Infrastructure (YSEFI), Youth Team Sports Allocation (YTS), and Youth Development Program (YDP) from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Funding is available to Delaware County municipalities and non-profit youth serving agencies or community organizations. These are “new funds” and are awarded on a competitive basis.  

Sports funding is available for programs who serve youth ages 0 - 17 (depending on the funding category applied for) that provide a wide and flexible definition of sports that encompass any organized activities with movement, including physical fitness activities such as yoga, hiking, dance, karate, and active outdoor pursuits. Youth Development funding is available for a wide variety of youth development programming for a broad range of youth ages 0-17. All funding is prioritized to serve youth in under-resourced communities.

Eligibility and funding:

Funding may provide general operating dollars to give programs flexibility to efficiently allocate resources for quality programming and/or infrastructure projects. Line-item budgets should focus on programming costs, including but not limited to:

• Coaches/instructors/direct service staff/mentors (including training/professional development)

• Equipment/uniforms

• Programming costs

• Registration costs 

• Maximum of 15% of funds for administrative/overhead costs

Programs eligible for funding must meet the following criteria:

• Provide structured sports/physical activities for youth ages 0-17 or 6-17 (for YSEF and YTS funding) 

• Provide Youth Development activities/programming for youth ages 0-17 (for YDP funding) 

• Serve youth in Delaware County

• Be certified as tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, or be community based which refers to small scale organizations that work within the community who may not be large enough for non-profit status. 

• Be in good standing with the New York State Charities Bureau (if tax exempt)

• Demonstrate basic competency in the areas of governance, monitoring and evaluation, partnership, and financial stewardship 

• Have a child protection policy in place that includes adherence to local city, agency, school district, and state child protection guidelines

• Collect registration data, including participant demographic information as required by OCFS in such a fashion as to be able to accurately report anonymized aggregate data (forms will be provided).
