Hancock: Timber rattlesnake in the front yard

Environmental Conservation Officers responded to a report of timber rattlesnake Hancock on June 4. The caller discovered the four-foot snake just feet from his house and called for help. Officers arrived with protective snake gear and utilized snake tongs to safely remove the timber rattlesnake from the homeowner’s yard for release back into the wild. Timber rattlesnakes are one of three venomous snake species native to New York state. These snakes are generally found in small, localized areas, and are considered a threatened species protected by state law.
