Honest Brook Festival opens 35th season

DELHI – The renowned Ulysses Quartet will open Honest Brook Music Festival’s 35th season of music in the barn Saturday afternoon, July 13.

The season continues Saturday, July 20, with cellist James Baik and pianist Albert Cano Smit, followed by concerts Sunday, Aug. 4 and 11.

All concerts are at 4 p.m.

Praised for their textural versatility, exuberance and polished artistry, the Ulysses Quartet has won numerous prizes and medals in the United States and Vietnam since the group was founded in 2015. Quartet members are violinists Christina Bouey and Rhiannon Banerdt; violist Peter Dudek; and cellist Grace Ho. They hail from Canada, the United States, and Taiwan.

Baik, 20, hails from Houston, Texas. He began playing the cello when he was eight and soloed with many orchestras in the Houston area: he is also an active chamber group musician.

Smit won first prize at the prestigious Naumberg International Music Competition and the Young Artists Competition. He studied at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles and the Juilliard School in New York, where he received the Arthur Rubenstein Prize in piano. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2019.

Their program includes selections by Reynaldo Hahn, Benjamin Britten, Gabriel Faure, and Cesar Frank.

The Honest Brook music season continues Sunday afternoon, August 4, with the Champlain Trio, and Aug. 18 with pianist Nathan Lee.

Honest Brook Music Festival is on Honest Brook Road off Route 28 North between Delhi and Meridale.

No physical tickets are issued however all seats must be reserved in advance. Seating is not assigned.

Reservations are $25 per concert or $85 for the season. Cash or check only. Children in grades K-12 are admitted free.
