Mid-York Concert Band announces $1,000 scholarship

The Mid-York Concert Band has announced its first annual scholarship. The award will recognize a high school band student who has achieved outstanding musical success as demonstrated by musicianship, dedication, and leadership.

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who:

• Actively participates in band;

• Attends school in Chenango, Delaware, Madison or Otsego counties;

• Plans to remain active in instrumental music after graduation.

Student applications and prerecorded audition submissions are due by Monday, April 29. The Mid-York Scholarship committee will select and notify a winner by Friday, May 3.

High school seniors in Chenango, Delaware, Madison and Otsego counties should ask their band director for the application details.

The Mid-York Concert Band is celebrating its 40th year and is comprised of people who enjoy playing concert band music. The MYCB rehearses in the fall, winter and spring and holds two annual performances that are free to the public. The next performance is Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. in the Norwich High School Auditorium.
