NWS confirms tornado in Walton

WALTON - The National Weather Service in Binghamton confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Walton Sunday, Sept. 25, between 6:38 and 6:41 p.m..

Tornado damage was noted on Walton Mountain Road where trees fell in a convergent pattern.

Winds were reported to come from multiple directions.

Sporadic trees damage was seen along the state Route 10 corridor and metal sheeting was ripped from a roof and thrown approximately 100 yards.

Tree damage was also observed along South River Road, with the worst damage occurring at the end of the tornado’s track.

Many large trees were snapped or uprooted, the report stated, and fell in a cross-stitch pattern approximately 300 yards long and 50 yards wide.

An EF-1 tornado is considered “weak” with 86 to 110 m.p.h. winds, according to the National Weather Service,
