Her latest exhibit, “Patterns of Change,” is a testament to Bea Ortiz’s artistic prowess, ability to transform spaces and way to captivate an audience. The exhibit features individual and movable pieces that collectively consume an entire wall, creating a captivating visual experience.

Bea Ortiz, originally from Spain, has made Margaretville her artistic sanctuary, infusing the local art scene with her unique perspective.

“Patterns of Change,” a 128 piece iteration, explores the dynamic interplay of black and white, showcasing Ortiz’s mastery of contrast and form. The individual pieces, each a work of art in itself, come together seamlessly to create a larger, immersive installation. The fractal-like drawings appear to represent microcosms like celestial events, black holes, weather systems and cellular divisions. Each abstract suggests unrelated events or isolated elements but in conjunction with the overall grid structure, the illusion of individuality gives was to the experience of universal connectedness.

Walking into the exhibit is like stepping into a world where patterns evolve and change, capturing the essence of transformation. Ortiz’s use of black and white adds depth and intensity, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate details of each piece.

Ortiz is a Spanish American visual artist painting and drawing in Margaretville. After studying fine art at the University of Salamanca and completing post-graduate studies in education at the University of Valladolid in Spain, Ortiz permanently relocated to New York City in 1998 where she maintained an international career as a decorative painter and muralist and also taught art for non-profit organizations in public schools and nursing home facilities.  In 2018, she relocated to Margaretville and returned to a full-time art making practice following a life-changing illness.
