Rain doesn’t keep crowd from Sidney Fall Fest

SIDNEY – It was a busy Saturday at the annual Fall Fest at Covered Bridge Farm Market — very busy, in fact, considering the rain, the crisp fall breeze, and of course the mud.

That didn’t deter hundreds of people from the region from descending on the market to check out pumpkins and produce, shopping and playing, and eating plenty of food that would have their family doctors shaking their heads.

Food trucks sporting handy awnings lined one road, while dozens of vendors displayed a host of homemade and handmade goods — edible, usable and collectible — under a packed tent.

When the rain let up, kids got to enjoy horseback rides, a corn pit for the smallest, a corn maze for everyone, plus a bit of sand art, gourd-based checkers, tik-tac-toe — and more. “Outlaw country band” the Barnyard Saints supplied the morning music, followed by southern rock ’n’ roll from Norwich-based Sundown.

The rain, even when heavy, didn’t slow the tide. As for the muddy walk from the (well-staffed) parking lot? No problem, per organizer Erin Johnson: “They put their boots on.”
