Stamford: Nature Ruthlessly Recalled exhibit opens Sept. 14

The Roxbury Arts Group welcomes contemporary American painter Susan Mayr for Nature Ruthlessly Recalled, her first major exhibition in the Catskills in more than 20 years. Mayr’s work captures the intense beauty of the natural world, without being specifically representational.

The opening reception will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Headwaters Arts Center, 66 Main Street, Stamford. This reception is free and open to all, tickets are not required.

For most of her life Mayr has been an urban dweller longing for mountains, forests, and trees. She has traveled regularly to Nova Scotia to fill herself with its atmosphere and light. In this show, memory meets the moment as her work reveals itself in a place remembered. Since her husband’s death in 2015, Mayr has lived in Woodstock where the natural world is close at hand. Her work has been presented in shows since 1983.

Nature Ruthlessly Recalled is a collection of large scale and smaller works offering viewers the opportunity to reflect on the changing of seasons and the turning of years.

The show will be on display at Headwaters Center for the Arts during regular hours, Wednesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. through Nov. 2. For more information about this opening, visit roxburyartsgroup.org or email headwaters@roxburyartsgroup.org or call 607.214.6040.
