Sun Ra Arkestra, pioneer of Afro-futurism, will play an outdoor concert at the West Kortright Center Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m.
The legendary jazz group was formed in the mid 1950s and led by Sun Ra until his death in 1993. As of 2002 the band has been under the direction of the now 100-year old saxophonist Marshall Allen.
Attend for an evening under the stars with cosmic celebration, space tunes, jazz and experimental exploratory music. Grounds open at 6 p.m. There will be food and drinks available at concession stands.
This is an outdoor concert with limited seating; bring your own lawn chair. Tickets are $40 in advance general admission, $45 at the door. Members receive a 10% discount, kids 12 and under are 50% off. Visit westkc.org to purchase tickets.
