WCS 2024-25 budget vote May 21

WALTON - Walton Central School District voters will vote on the proposed $25,039.63 budget for the 2024-25 school year Tuesday, May 21 from noon to 9 p.m. at the Walton Central School Bus Garage, 220 Delaware Street, Walton.

The proposed budget calls for a 3.33% increase in spending over 2023-24, and a 3.5% tax levy increase. For property assessed at $100,000, property owners can expect to pay $47 more than last year.

Propositions

• Voters are asked to decide on the purchase of three 64-passenger traditionally-fueled (not electric) school buses at a cost not to exceed $510,000.

• Voters are also asked to vote on a proposition for William B. Ogden Free Library funding of $271,133. If passed, each property owner in the district can expect to pay an additional $30 - $60 per parcel, in addition to the increase in the school budget.

Board of Education seats

There are two three-year seats up for election. Candidates appearing on the ballot are Jacob T. Davies and Tammie H. Tweedie.
