Wild Saturday at Woodchuck Lodge Sept. 7

Posted

The wildly popular Annie Mardiney from Wild Mountain Birds in Ulster County will show and discuss her raptors at John Burroughs’ Woodchuck Lodge, 1633 Burroughs Memorial Road, Roxbury, Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. Learn about these beautiful creatures, see them up close and personal and find out how saving wildlife is a collaborative effort.

Mardiney is a professionally licensed and insured wildlife rehabilitator. She is also licensed to use wild birds for education. One of our most popular nature presenters, Mardiney is not to be missed by anyone with an interest in hawks and falcons.

Dr. Michael Kudish is a well-known speaker in and around the Catskills and New York state, will present at Woodchuck Lodge on the second Saturday, Oct. 12 - note - the second Saturday - at 1 p.m.

Kudish is a professor emeritus from the Division of Forestry at Paul Smith’s College. His presentation, “What can the bogs teach us about history?” highlights his research on the numerous bogs in the Catskills. It just may “boggle” your mind when it comes to this unusual subject.

Wild Saturdays are presented from May through October, usually on the first Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. at Woodchuck Lodge. All programs are free. It is often advisable to for updates or changes to programs at www.JBWoodchuckLodge.org

Woodchuck Lodge was the summer home of famed author and naturalist John Burroughs for the last ten years of his life. It is on the farm where he was born and raised, and where he developed his love of the Catskills and its splendid flora and fauns.

Though the lodge is closed to tours during its renovation, the trails are available dawn-dusk. Wild Saturdays programs are underwritten by the Catskill Watershed Corporation.
