Janice A. Foley, 70, of Walton peacefully and unexpectedly went home to the Lord Friday, Dec. 2, 2022 at home. Janice was born Dec. 12, 1951 in Hoboken, N.J. She was the youngest child and only daughter of the late Bernard and Josephine (Henning) Fiedler.

On Feb. 20,1988, she married the greatest love of her life, Bernard E. Foley Sr. He predeceased her June 22, 2004.

Janice was a daycare provider in her home for 30 years. She lovingly took care of countless children as if they were her own. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Walton where she served as a trustee for many years, treasurer for the United Methodist Women, performed countless administrative and financial duties, and was one of the founding mothers of the pork roast dinner. She was also on the committee that remodeled the kitchen after the flood of 2006. Every year she meticulously organized a basket auction which not only helped raise money for the church, but also a local family in need. Decades ago, Janice and her late husband organized the sponsoring of the church Altar Family which consists of collecting donations of food and gifts to bless a family in need during the holidays. She was also a member and officer of the Walton Grange assisting with welcoming new members, the kitchen committee, and willingly baking her “world famous” cream puffs for events and fundraisers. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, crocheting, knitting, gardening and most importantly spending time with family and friends (who were really family also).

Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved to decorate every room of her home with holiday cheer. Every room had a Christmas tree - or two or three! She was a giver. Dedicated to helping anyone who needed it in whatever way she could, whether offering odd jobs around her home or adopting families in need to deliver food and gifts to.

Janice is survived by and will forever be missed by her loving family. Her children Helen (Shawn) Murphy of Walton, Nicole (Brian McNamara) Hodorovych of Sidney Center, Jenna (Brad) Skinner of Downsville, Brie (Paul) Freese of Florida, Christopher (Tracey) Foley of Missouri, Samantha Fiduccia, Angela Espada, Tammy Monaco, Bernie Foley, and Gerry Foley; Grandchildren Ashleigh (Butch Taylor) Murphy; Cameron (Erin Lutz) Murphy; Collin (Rachel Carman) Hodorovych; Carter McNamara; Megan (Austin Kilmer) McNamara; Kaitlyn McNamara; Katrina (Blake Shaw) Skinner; Matthew (Mara Frisbee) Skinner; Malcolm Skinner; Charlotte Freese; Kara, Isaiah, Ivannah, Samantha, Jeremiah and Kaylah Foley; great-grandchildren Landon, Tripp, Wilder, Knox, and Ryatt Taylor; Amelia, Justin, Ryan, and Carolea Somers; Maisyn Lutz; Ava Hodorovych and baby boy Hodorovych on the way; her brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth (Ann) Fiedler of New Jersey, Larry (Florence) Fiedler of New Jersey, Joseph (Nora) Fiedler of Elmira, Thomas (Gerri) Fiedler of Florida, Paula Fiedler, Evelyn Fiedler of California, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and all of her church family.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Joshua B. Foley, brothers Robert Fiedler and Bernie Fiedler, and special sister-in-law Lillian Fiedler.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 101 North Street, Walton, with Pastor Christine Lindeberg officiating. Wear orange if you can as it was Janice’s favorite color, or anything Christmassy. Burial will be at the Walton Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. Condolences to the family may be made online at courtneyfh.com.

Although she loved receiving flowers, instead consider making a memorial contribution in Janice’s memory to the Walton Food Bank, Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, help a family in need this holiday season, or to a local charity of your choice.
