Jo Anne Tweedie, 76, of Slingerlands, formerly of Andes, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

Born on Thursday, May 6, 1948, in Margaretville, Jo Anne was the daughter of the late Laurence and Anne (Wade) Tweedie.

She was a graduate of Wellesley College and received an MBA from Boston University. Jo Anne went on to work as a computer programmer for several software firms near Boston before returning to the Albany area in 1997. She worked for Keane on Y2K and other projects, then joined Albany Medical Center for the next 16 years. In 2023, she retired from her favorite job in AMC’s Data Analytics unit, only because of her declining health.

She spent most of her final year at Delmar Place assisted living, making new friends and finally relaxing after years of hard work. Her family thanks the staff there for their kindhearted and excellent care.

Raised in the Andes area, Jo Anne had a special place in her heart for the Catskills, and on trips back home would often exclaim, “Oh, look at those beautiful mountains.” Jo Anne and her sister often took day trips to nearby museums and especially enjoyed visiting covered bridges.

She was an avid reader from childhood and loved owning the books she read. In recent years, her iPad was her constant companion, having worn out two Kindles.

Jo Anne is survived by her sister Betsy Tweedie of Delmar; brother Laurence “Jay” Tweedie Jr. of Andes, along with several cousins, including a special group in the Clyde area.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Andes United Methodist Church, Lower Main Street, Andes. Friends and relatives called at the church before the services. Burial was at Andes Cemetery.
