Peter Benedict, age 84 of Butler, Tennessee, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1940 in Teaneck, New Jersey to the late William Peter Benedict and Ruth Helen Terhume. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Rogers Benedict, and sister, Mary Lou Turnbull. 

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Barbara Harbin Benedict; sister Barbara Roman; children Mark Benedict, Meghan Anderson and husband Sean, Patricia Jurek, Sharlaine Johnsa and husband Berry, Wanda Beste and husband Chris, and Benjamin Harbin and wife Olivia; grandchildren Cammie Mansfield and husband Greer, Eloise Brauer and husband Bjorn, Linus Evans and wife Britany, Abriel Jurek, Lilliana Rahm, Sophia Jurek, Benny Harbin, and Tillie Harbin;  great-grandchildren Lennart Brauer, Jonathan Mansfield, and Moritz Brauer; and many nieces and nephews. 

Peter graduated from Walton High School. He served in the United States Army for two years, then retired from the United States Air Force as captain after 20 years of loyal service. Additionally, he retired from Rockwell International. A lifelong learner, Peter then pursued and achieved a master of divinity from Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. He then served an internship at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, North Carolina. Peter’s last profession was as pastor of St. James Lutheran Church in Greeneville, Tennessee. 

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Little Doe Baptist Church. A celebration meal will be held following the service at the church fellowship hall. The burial will be held in Wellsburg, New York, at a later date which will be announced.
