Roger Alan Thompson, 77, of Greenville, S.C., passed away peacefully Oct. 16, 2023 in Greenville, with his son by his side. Roger was born on May 5, 1946 to the late Clayton and Alice (Nethaway) Thompson.

Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army for many years. After retiring from the Army, Roger went on to work as an auto body repairman for several years, working in various shops throughout Fonda and Walton.

Throughout his life, Roger loved to spend time with his family and traveling. He spent the past ten years visiting numerous states with his son Sean. Most notably, they traveled to California, Las Vegas, and New York for family reunions and Yankee’s games. Roger was also able to travel during his time with the Army, visiting many cities throughout Germany.

His loving family includes his son, Sean Boyle; his brothers Earnest (Laura) Thompson of Mount Upton and Dwight Thompson of Fonda, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aside from his parents Clayton and Alice, Roger is preceded in passing by his siblings Clayton (Ella) Thompson, Elinor (Earl) Gunnerson, Ruth (Raymond) Grotevant, Esther (Donald) Jump, Louise (Charles) Lewis, Sylvia (Charles) Covey, and Diane (Daniel) Weaver.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 2 until 3 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y. A Memorial Service will be held following the calling period at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Walter presiding. Interment will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. in the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave, Walton, where he will be laid to rest with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choosing.
