Sandra “Sandy” Joy Homovich of Downsville passed away peacefully at her home Oct. 15, 2023. Sandy was born April 13, 1941, on Easter Sunday; she was 82. Sandy was the daughter of the late Alexander and Janet Homovich.

Sandy graduated from Downsville Central School in 1959. After graduation she attended and graduated from Binghamton State School of Nursing. As a registered nurse Sandy worked at several medical facilities including the Delaware Valley Hospital, the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, the Family School of Hancock, and the Center of Discovery. Her work at the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment at Garnet Health Center-Catskills, Harris Campus eventually brought her back to the Delaware Valley Hospital to help establish the ARU. Sandy was most proud of this work and her 41 years of sobriety and mentorship in these programs.

Sandy loved sports, both active and passive. She participated in the local women’s softball and she loved to play golf. The NY Yankees was her favorite professional team for her entire life.

She also enjoyed music and played the trumpet in several community bands. She was an expert knitter and enjoyed needlework.

One of her joys in life was spending time in the spring with her friend Dot, processing maple syrup. Sandy loved animals and always had her dog and cat beside her.

Survivors include her life partner Rebecca M. Liddell, at home; two sisters, Joan Homovich of Downsville and Donna Triebe of Downsville; one brother Thomas Homovich and his husband Gary Wrobel of Cohoes; two daughters Rhonda Liddell of Downsville and Tammy Liddell of Binghamton; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three nephews and two nieces; a sister-in-law Shirley Homovich of Downsville, one great-nephew and three great-nieces.

She was predeceased by her brother Robert Homovich.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 26, at the James S. Moore American Legion Post 167, River Road, Downsville, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A memorial service will begin at noon.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the James S. Moore American Legion Post 167, Downsville.
